Caulfield Cup Form Guide: A tough stayer’s race run under handicap conditions, it is becoming a popular race for international raiders to target. Always carefully studied by form analysts when assessing the Melbourne Cup, many horses who have performed well in this race go on to success in the race that stops the nation. In 2017 Johannes Vermeer ran third in this race and then was second in the Melbourne Cup. In 2012, Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon ran second in this race. 2008 Melbourne Cup winner Viewed won this race in 2009. The last horse to win both the Caulfield Cup and the Melbourne Cup in the same year was Ethereal in 2001.
Caulfield Cup Track Bias Report: The 2400m start begins in the home straight in front of the grandstand. Although runners complete a full circuit of the course enabling most to have their chance, the rail will be out around the 6m mark following two days of racing in the same week. Horses that get too far back will struggle to gain a good position, inside barriers are usually an advantage. See the Melbourne Track Report with scratchings, weather conditions & track bias for Caulfield Cup Day.
